Beth to open Burnley GC's new centre!

WORLD champion gymnast Beth Tweddle is set to launch a Burnley sports centre which is bidding to become home to his own crop of medallists
 
Just months before her Olympic tilt, the Cheshire-born athlete will be perform the opening of the Burnley Enterprise of Sport and Training (BEST) on Network 65, at Hapton
 
The three-time world titlist, who will compete in the London games, will also provide a masterclass for young hopefuls at the fledgling centre
 
The event is set to take place on Sunday, February 19. 
 
Beth, considered to be the most successful British gymnast of all time, has excelled on the uneven bars and floor disciplines and was the first British gymnast to secure European and world gold medals in the sport. 
 
Supporters of the BEST centre are hopeful that they can make their Network 65 base a centre of excellence for Lancashire and beyond. 
 
Burnley Gymnastics Club, currently based in Church Street, has relocated to the facility and similar talks have also taken place with East Lancashire Police Boxing Club. 
 
The prospect of establishing an indoor bowls area has also been discussed. 
 
Andrew Smith, BEST director, said “We are delighted to be able to welcome such an inspirational athlete like Beth Tweddle to open our centre. It has been hard work on a long road to get things open and this is the icing on the cake.”
 
The businessman is also hopeful of attracting some of the 1,000 plus employees who work on the industrial estate to become members. 
 
Advanced talks have taken place with the council over the possibility of loaning gym equipment for the development. 
 
The development is the latest sporting innovation to benefit the town, with the relaunched former Spirit of Sport, off Belvedere Road, also encouraging more people to consider extending their exercise regimes.
