The Final Olympic Trial

With London 2012 just 39 days away, there is the looming decision for the British Gymnasts of who will make the team.

Only 5 gymnasts can take a space in Team GB in London, with 2 being named as reserves.

On the women's side, there are a number of gymnasts fighting for a space in the team. Beth Tweddle MBE, Beth Tweddle Gymnastics (formerly Total Gymnastics) Director, 3 times World Champion and 6 times European Champion will face a strong fight from Liverpool's 19 year old double European Bronze medalist Hannah Whelan and 15 year old Junior British Champion Rebecca Tunney. Jenni Pinches, also from Liverpool will put in a strong bid for a spot on the team as will Heathrow's Danusia Francis and Commonwealth gold medalist from the Academy, Imogen Cairns. Imogen's younger team mate, Ruby Harrold is also in the race with strong vault and bars routines, as is Nottingham's Becky Downie returning from injury and her team mate Niamh Rippin.

Tunney has won the first two trials with high scores all around. With injury to the reigning British Champion Hannah Whelan in the first two trials, the final trial at the British Championships in the Liverpool Echo Arena this weekend (23rd July) will be a nail biting fight for the top places.

The team is due to be announced around a week or so after the British Championships so watch this space for the results! Follow @totalgymnastics and @bgmediateam on twitter for continued scores and results from the championships or visit Gym data to see the results coming in.

Good luck to all the gymnasts competing this weekend!
